The Most Evil Company on the Planet -- Monsanto

In an interview with The Real News Network, filmmaker Marie-Monique Robin discussed her recent film ‘The World According to Monsanto.‘ The documentary exposes Monsanto‘s controversial practices, which range from concealing knowledge of toxicity of PCBs to producing genetically modified seeds and related herbicides.

A Monsanto declassified file stated that "we can‘t afford to lose one dollar" to worries about PCB toxicity. This, Robin says, sums up Monsanto‘s philosophy rather well.

Dr. Mercola''s Comments Dr. Mercola's Comments:

Monsanto, the chemical manufacturer turned agricultural giant, is indeed gaining control over the world’s population, one seed at a time.

Marie-Monique Robin’s documentary “The World According to Monsanto” tells the whole story. It was actually aired on French television earlier this year, but if you live in the United States don’t expect this eye-opening expose to hit the mainstream press. Fortunately, I’ve posted the entire video so that everyone can see it.

And I believe it is one of the most important videos you could ever watch.

It may sound outrageous that a corporation could prevent farmers from reusing seeds produced after each harvest, as has been done since the beginning of agriculture, but this is already going on thanks to Monsanto.

Since the 1980s, Monsanto has become the world leader in genetic modification of seeds and has won 674 biotechnology patents, more than any other company.

But Monsanto is not only patenting their own GMO seeds. They have also succeeded in slapping patents on a huge number of crop seeds, patenting life forms for the first time -- without a vote of the people or Congress.

Farmers who buy Monsanto’s Roundup Ready seeds are required to sign an agreement promising not to save the seeds or sell them to other farmers. The result? Farmers must buy new seeds every year, and they must buy them from Monsanto.

The Monsanto Mafia

Monsanto has actually hired an army of private investigators and agents to secretly videotape and photograph farmers that may attempt to reuse their seeds. These “seed police” as the farmers call them have infiltrated community meetings and attempted to pressure farmers into signing papers giving Monsanto access to their private records.

Quite fittingly, farmers have described Monsanto’s tactics as similar to the “Gestapo” and “Mafia.”

Monsanto has also considered using what’s known as terminator technology on a wide-scale basis. These are seeds that have been genetically modified to “self-destruct.” In other words, the seeds (and the forthcoming crops) are sterile, which means farmers must buy them again each year.

Yet, most farmers cannot afford to buy new seeds every year, so collecting and replanting seeds is a crucial part of the agricultural cycle. This is the way food has been grown successfully for thousands of years.

Further, the traits from genetically engineered crops can get passed on to other crops. Once the terminator seeds are released into a region, the trait of seed sterility could be passed to other non-genetically-engineered crops, making most or all of the seeds in the region sterile.

If allowed to continue, every farmer in the world could come to rely on Monsanto for their seed supply … and this is not a company that you want in control of your food supply.

Monsanto’s Toxic Past

Monsanto tries to pass itself off as an innovative agricultural company, when in reality they produced two of the most toxic substances ever known -- polychlorinated biphenyls, known as PCBs, and dioxin (Agent Orange).

Monsanto may also be responsible for more than 50 Environmental Protection Agency Superfund sites, and they’re the masterminds behind some of the most dangerous products on the market today:
Monsanto is also deeply entrenched with the pharmaceutical industry. Pharmacia Corporation was created in April 2000 through the merger of Pharmacia & Upjohn with Monsanto Company and its G.D. Searle unit.

How to Fight Back Against Monsanto

First, I urge you to get informed on the issue. Along with “The World According to Monsanto,” you can watch The Future of Food. This in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind genetically modified foods is one of the best documentaries I have ever viewed. It will help you understand the very real threat that ALL future generations face as a result of genetic engineering.

Please do not be shy about forwarding this video to all of your friends and family, as it is something that everyone should see.

Next, you can hit Monsanto where it really hurts -- using your pocketbook. Avoid buying anything that contains GMO ingredients.

Seven out of every 10 items in your typical grocery store have been genetically modified, so avoiding GM foods means avoiding most processed foods. Show Monsanto how you really feel by getting your food from local farmers who still control their own seed supply.

Well, I don't know what to say other than that Monsanto must be stopped and quickly. How does a chemical company turn itself around into agriculture? At the same time I feel outraged at how mainstream media never reports this at all. They're always yapping about the latest police chase and sex offender in the area that has everyone living in fear when you have this going on behind everyone's backs. I'll bet the majority of people have never even heard of a company called Monsanto.

Make no mistake. They're looking to control the world's food supply. It's extremely dangerous. People have to eat, and they'll be left with no choice but to eat their poison. Or if they gain enough leverage, they can use it to control people.

The government can never be trusted to deal with these rogue organizations. They are big industry after all, and God knows the government will always be the lap dog to big industry. What is Congress doing about it? Nothing. The USDA? The FDA? Nothing but help them. When a company such as this should be shut down with its members prosecuted.

The only way Monsanto can be stopped is a global boycott of their poison before the wildfire spreads to the point everything you buy at the grocery store is Monsanto. Destroy the poisonous weed at its budding now before it has the chance to grow and spread. And it's not like GM foods are superior to the real thing. What they're doing is poisoning and stripping foods of their nutritional value. Something that should be nutritional is now toxically inedible. All they have ever caused is environmental destruction and human suffering. If anything, they should all be executed.

The true terrorists aren't the stereotypical radical Muslim suicide bomber. Even such a terrorist could never do the magnitude of harm as a company like Monsanto can potentially do. THESE are the true terrorists among us. They are a plague, and should be wiped out like rats.

Yes Fortitude,

Between Monsanto and Big Pharma, we are going to be in a world of hurt and slavery if something is not done soon. I agree that our news does not report the most important issues and they will continue not to until the public starts demanding the issues they want to hear about.

You think those futuristic movies where people are afraid to go out of their homes or voice an opinion is just a bad "sci-fi" movie? Wrong! That's going to be our real lives if we don't do something about it!

The news don't report this because they are probably also under the thumb of Monsanto and Big Pharma, either directly or indirectly.

Fortitude of Heaven, I like the idea of a world boycott, and prosecution. What I was thinking was too hot to put into print.

WellnessMom, the time of being afraid to voice an opinion is already on us. I remember all to well the vibe that was going around right after 911. I was afraid to say some stuff that is (mostly) not a problem to say now, 7 years later.

Aaltrude...You are probably VERY right on that!

bmc...Yes...it has gotten to the point where we do have to watch what we say although while we still have a small voice, we do need to unite and use it to our advantage to get these cheating, killing, money grubbing people out of office, big pharma, etc.

Shoot! Did I say that out loud!!!

I understand your rage. Reminds me of a movie called Rage where George C. Scott is a father who's child dies from a company's poisons and everyone is covering it up. Yes, there's rage. But the people running this company are just like you and I, doing their jobs and believing in what they are doing.

This company is like a huge freight train barreling down the tracks at high speed. What they don't know is that the tracks end in disaster. What we need to do is to hop aboard the train, find the engineers in charge, and let them know this! They are not rats. They are not terrorists. They are simply ignorant. They are focused on the almighty dollar and oblivious to the health issues. Their priorities need to change. You don't do this by wiping them out. You do this by educating, informing, and helping them find alternatives that meet the higher criteria.

What kind of country are we inhabiting, where we have become afraid to speak truth to power?

Afraid to speak? Think of the implications.

Dear PeaceLoveJazz, I am not the one who dinged you, but I want to point out that your assumption that the people who run Monsanto are just like us is naive.  Excusable, given what religions and liberal society teach us, but naive.  Scientific studies have identified a certain fraction of our society (estimates differ, but run from 1~6%) called psychopaths or sociopaths who lack the ability to understand moral reasoning.  I.e., they lack a conscience.  They do not perceive themselves as sick, so they do not seek help.  They lie glibly.  They are charming and erudite.  Because they lack remorse, they have an enormous advantage over the rest of us, especially when we obstinately fail to acknowledge their existence.  I think that when an organization has been caught lying repeatedly we should suspect them of being run by psychopaths who really don't care if they hurt many people, or worse yet, enjoy it.  These people seek power over others, therefore it is common to encounter them running (and ruining) organizations.  Disengagement appears to be the most effective way to deal with them.  Boycotting Monsanto would be a great idea.

It just occurred to me that Monsanto in French is very close to Mon Sante.
Mon sante means 'my health'.

Their control of food, water, air, sun will indeed control 'my health' if they get any further! They must be stopped.

samsara...that's pretty scary that the name is so close. They are well on their way to "controlling our everything". They have to be stopped.

Anyone remember the 1973 movie "Soylent Green"  with Charleston Heston?

Here's an excerpt:

It's the year 2022... People are still the same. They'll do anything to get what they need. And they need SOYLENT GREEN.

In an overpopulated futuristic Earth, a New York police detective finds himself marked for murder by government agents when he gets too close to a bizarre state secret involving the origins of a revolutionary and needed new foodstuff.

I hope it hasn't made it to this yet, but it's a pretty scary resemblance don't you think?

Yes, Wellness, it is scary how  closely the names are....
I did see Soylent G.(sp?) many years ago, and then again on the late movies recently. I think a few Mercolians have made reference to it on this site.

It never ceases to creep me out also when I see advertising for drug names. They are given these 'power' names, or 'trickster' names as I like to call them, all in attempts to fool the consumer into thinking that they are safe, good for you, and you simply must take them because there is no alternative(or so they say)... but I digress.

The bottom line is that Monsanto is vehemently pursuing control over everything, and if they are allowed to proceed, they will control our health
even more.

SYNGENTA CONFESSES:

GENETICALLY MODIFIED CROPS CANNOT FEED THE WORLD

In a revealing interview with the Guardian UK last week, Martin Taylor, the chairman of one of the world's leading sellers and promoters of seeds for GM crops, Syngenta, admitted that biotech foods cannot feed the world. Taylor told the Guardian, "GM won't solve the food crisis, at least not in the short term." This is in stark contrast to the biotech industry's ongoing propaganda that the world must embrace genetically engineered crops in order to feed the world's growing population. Although Syngenta and other biotech giants like Monsanto regularly also claim that GM crops are environmentally sustainable, Syngenta's chairman confessed the biotech industry's real focus is on lucrative crops and high-priced seeds and pesticides with "hardly any environmental benefits".

RELATED STUDY OF THE WEEK

"Assessment of the GM technology lags behind its development, information is anecdotal and contradictory, and uncertainty about possible benefits and damage is unavoidable."

Source: A report released earlier this year from the United Nations World Food Program. The study was funded by the biotech industry and 60 nations, including the U.S., and clearly admits that genetically modified crops are not the solution to the food crisis. Upon finding out the results, the US, UK, Australia and Canada refused to endorse the international study. The study also warns that biofuels and climate change are leading causes of the global food crisis.

hi all, and first to linda mae, the word and the seeds you need are HERITAGE. they are old lines saved for hundreds of years by home gardeners, worldwide. they are as nature made them. there are no owners of them. the seeds breed true! and deviance is a natural "sport" as it is called and they are either  stronger and more suited to the area and climate, or a mistake that tends to set no, or poor ,seed and die out.that is natural.there are white, yellow, purple skinned and usual orange coloured carrots for example, ditto in beetroot, tomato etc. a whole world of colour, flavou,r and climate ranges.as to Monsanto ,dow, incitec pivot, and all the others. oh boy! it is a snakes nest of companies, and commercial interests. start at oil refining, coal mining ,that  waste goes to industrial chemicals , they go to us via seed and soil treatments, gmo is another whammy! then a subsidiary pesticide co, also the body care industry to make sure we get our dose. and if that is not enough theres a whole slew of food additives to get us if we eat processed food. i give an example. food additive 900a, classified as anti foam agent. hmmm? used in oils in deep frying. well, why? would that be in a jar of plain tomato spaghetti sauce.? it was, it is a silicon! and i have just recovered.  your hot potato chips are 99% likely to be cooked in it.! yuuuk!  Glycerin...soaps  we think are safer..well glycerin is a by product of treating stale chip fat (for eg) with caustic, and methanol to make bio diesel. a friend of mine was using it to make "natural soap" oh sure.. yes i know how homemade soap uses fat and caustic or lye. however commercially the petrochemical way is the norm.

SOILS,GRASS and CANCER by Andre Voisin is a good place to start, this man and many others have the most important message. without clean healthy soil and water. mankind is going to have a limited future. and ACRES usa or aust. for how farming/food should be. Get Educated, and get Verbal.:-)

Another word for the seeds you mention, and possibly a more familiar one, is "heirloom."

Just my 2-3¢.
