There is a one in three probability that depression will hit you or someone you know very closely.  The rotten thing about depression is that not only does it zap all the joy and excitement from life but it can be a terminal illness, as about 15 percent of those with depression actually commit suicide.

Fortunately there are many powerful resources to address this problem. One excellent one is the book Unstuck: Your Guide to the Seven-Stage Journey Out of Depression, by Dr. James Gordon.

Unstuck: Your Guide to the Seven-Stage Journey Out of DepressionChallenging the Status Quo of the Conventional Treatment of Depression

Dr. Gordon is one of the pioneers in integrative medicine in the U.S. and has been advocating these principles for over thirty years.  He has respectable credentials as he graduated from Harvard Medical School and also served in the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and eventually wound up as the chairman of the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

He is an unconventional psychiatrist who challenges the perceived wisdom on how depression is viewed and treated.  Over 200 million prescriptions are written every year in the U.S. alone, and he provides compelling evidence that these expensive and potentially deadly drugs are no more effective than placebos, and that many of the negative studies supporting this fact have never been published due to suppression by the drug companies.

He believes depression can be a wakeup call and the start of a journey that can help you become whole and happy.  He provides a comprehensive summary of the non-drug options that are available to those suffering from depression.

Surprisingly though, the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is not included in his list.

This underlines what a major challenge it is to keep up in any area of health, because if one of the main pioneers in this area missed it, how easy would it be for the general lay public to miss it?

I recently interviewed Dr. Gordon for my inner circle membership program and when I asked him about EFT he mentioned that a few people had told him about it but he never investigated it. So with my encouragement he is starting that process, and will likely update future editions of Unstuck to include that information.

Dr. Gordon is also founder and director of the nonprofit Center for Mind Body Medicine in Washington D.C.  He has been able to share his training programs with about one third of the medical schools in the U.S. This is a major achievement, because if we fail to educate the new physicians in this paradigm, then we will lose the battle.

I am excited about Dr. Gordon’s work in this area and look forward to collaborating with him to see how we might work together in the future to continue to further educate new physicians.

The Bottom Line

If you or someone you know struggles with the pain of depression, I strongly encourage you to check out Unstuck: Your Guide to the Seven-Stage Journey Out of Depression. It is a comprehensive compilation of helpful strategies that has taken Dr. Gordon over thirty years to put together.

Books are clearly one of the best value resources you can acquire as they radically reduce the time required to learn a topic. Unstuck can help you or your loved ones accelerate out of the pain of depression.

What Are GMOs?

From April 19th through April 25th we launch GMO Awareness Week. We set aside an entire week dedicated to providing you with information on GMOs and labeling initiatives.

GMOs are a product of genetic engineering, meaning their genetic makeup has been altered to induce a variety of “unique” traits to crops, such as making them drought-resistant or giving them “more nutrients.” GMO proponents claim that genetic engineering is “safe and beneficial,” and that it advances the agricultural industry. They also say that GMOs help ensure the global food supply and sustainability. But is there any truth to these claims? I believe not. For years, I've stated the belief that GMOs pose one of the greatest threats to life on the planet. Genetic engineering is NOT the safe and beneficial technology that it is touted to be.

Help Support GMO Labeling

The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA)—Monsanto’s Evil Twin—is pulling out all the stops to keep you in the dark about what’s in your food. For nearly two decades, Monsanto and corporate agribusiness have exercised near-dictatorial control over American agriculture. For example, Monsanto has made many claims that glyphosate in Roundup is harmless to animals and humans. However, recently the World Health Organization (WHO) had their research team test glyphosate and have labeled it a probable carcinogen.

Public opinion around the biotech industry's contamination of our food supply and destruction of our environment has reached the tipping point. We're fighting back. That's why I was the first to push for GMO labeling. I donated a significant sum to the first ballot initiative in California in 2012, which inspired others to donate to the campaign as well. We technically "lost the vote, but we are winning the war, as these labeling initiatives have raised a considerable amount of public awareness.

The insanity has gone far enough, which is why I encourage you to boycott every single product owned by members of the GMA, including natural and organic brands. More than 80 percent of our support comes from individual consumers like you, who understand that real change comes from the grassroots.

Thankfully, we have organizations like the Organic Consumers Association (OCA) to fight back against these junk food manufacturers, pesticide producers, and corporate giants.

Together, Let's Help OCA Get The Funding They Deserve

Let’s Help OCA get the funding it deserves. I have found very few organizations who are as effective and efficient as OCA. It’s a public interest organization dedicated to promoting health justice and sustainability. A central focus of the OCA is building a healthy, equitable, and sustainable system of food production and consumption. That's why I'm proud to announce I will be matching donations up to $250,000 this week.

Please make a donation to help OCA fight for GMO labeling.
