I am a protien type and I am not suppose to eat broccoli any more. I have always ate lots of it. But since I want to follow the metabolic diet I have ordered a super green pill. It has all kinds of the anti ox's in it that I will be missing following the diet without adversly effecting my glycemic index. the only real greens I am suppose to have is spinich and asparagas. (spelling) At least it is better than Adkins, I can have some carbs and greens.. It's ok, I love meat..
I'd place my bets on that your probably still better off eating the actual broccoli, just keep it in moderation
No amount of broccoli will substitute for the right kind of diet.
I agree...it's better to eat the whole plant than a single constituent.
There is a great way to add raw broccoli to your food:
Grate the florets thinly into your usual salad (or into your cooked vegetables). You will hardly notice they're there. I add to my salads lots of olive oil and some soft avocado - together with grated broccoli this makes a delicious meal. Sometimes I add hard boiled or soft boiled eggs, or instead of salad I may use young spinach leaves.
I am a protein type too but adding avocado and /or eggs makes my vegetables bearable. Grated broccoli makes them super healthy. And if you eat it raw, you don't have to eat a lot of it.
I'm a protein type and seem to do well on broccoli. Meat tends to push the body toward acidity, so it doesn't make sense to me that pairing broccoli with a piece of meat wouldn't be a good balance.

Where can I read information on broccoli and thyroid? Have any studies been done on this?
ketone, does that mean your a protein type? I have wondered if a pre diabetic or diabetic would automatically be a protein type.....
What really reverse diabetes is cactus-leafs (nopales). Clean about two leafs (scrub off the needles) and cut into pieces, then in your juicer. It takes a little time to juice the leafs. It is going to come out thick and darkgreen. Let the glass of juice stand for about 10 min. It will separate into a light green juice (at the bottom). Scoop off the top (darkgreen) and drink the the lightgreen juice. It will give you an instant result. Test your sugar level before and then after, and then you'll see for yourself. I don't have diabetes, but many of my friends have it. One of my friend had 500 or above. After one drink and 5 min. it dropped to 130. Do this religously for 30 days and you'll reverse your diabetes!
I heard something about broccoli sprouts also curing stomach ulcers. What a wonderful time we live in!
Just goes to show that the bounty the land has to offer leads to good health. We will be just fine if the powers that be would stop lying to us give us the truth, stop polluting our farmland, or turning it into Wal-Mart Stores. We have enough housing, and shopping, areas, but what we really need is more good fertile organic farmland. The Good Earth, good for what ailes you.
Both raw and cooked broccoli will work according to the study.
However, your best bet is to eat broccoli sprouts which have a much greater content. I think they taste better too.
I got a load of goodies to prevent reactive oxygen species, especially where hair loss is concerned.

Organically-grown broccoli sprouts are really expensive here in Oz, so are the seeds. So this year I am letting my broccoli go to seed and growing my own.
Broccoli Reverse Diabetes Damage.
Very informative article "Broccoli Reverse Diabetes Damage". Keeping your heart and health is vital for all of us who are growing everyday. Broccoli is one of the most imortant vegetables we require for fighting cancer, providing energy, and daily needs. More information such as the article should be provided for everyone. As a mentor, leader, and individual who consumes broccoli, I am sharing the knowledge.

Dr. Mercola,
That's interesting about sulforaphane. I checked it out on Pubmed.gov and saw it activates something called Nrf2. Is sulforaphane the best compound you know of for combating ROS?
Hi, I have heard that raw broccoli contains a poison not unlike that Seveso poison.
What is true about that?
How can we find out our nutritional type without having to fly to Chicago?
There used to be (and may still be) a free test you could take on Dr. Mercola's site www.mercola.com that gives you a basic idea of where you fall in the spectrum. The book "The Metabolic Typing Diet" by William Wolcott and Trish Fahey goes into more detail on it. Also, try www.metabolictyping.com I haven't looked into it for a while, but it probably has a lot of good information.
FYI, I tried the test/diet advice in the Wolcott & Fahey book. It made absolutely no sense to me (some of the questions border on the absurd) but I gave it a whirl for a month. Result? I gained about 20 pounds and felt sluggish all the time. Now I listen to my body rather than to Wolcott & Fahey.
Tool,
I posted one.

john's hopkins has patented the ingredient from broccli and it is now in pill form. a company in florida, xymogen, makes it and calls it oncoplex. would like to know if anyone else is familiar with this product.
Reports like this can be very confusing. I am a protein type, but I have some home-grown broccoli sprouts every day. My book on blood type O eating says I should have plenty to red meat protein, take kelp (bladderwrack) to improve thyroid function, and avoid cauliflower, wheat, corn and most dairy products. I make my own yogurt but can't get raw milk here in Michigan unless I buy a share in a cow. I just came across a Prevention article (March 2008) about beneficial "resistant starch" found in bananas and COLD cooked potatoes, corn, and rice. I've started eating Ezekiel bread and adding cinnamon to things. Should I just let myself go crazy? People think I look good for my age (69) but just this week two people we know dropped dead from sudden heart attacks.
If you follow the metabolic protien type cauliflower is one of the few veggies you are allowed. They give you a few foods not to eat for you blood type. broccoli is one of the foods protien types are suppose to avoid because of its glycemic index I imagine.
Could you post the broccoli soup recipe? ^_^
Tool, here it is - all quantities variable.
Lightly cook 12-16 oz. fresh or frozen broccoli florets. Whiz briefly in blender or food processor with cooking liquid (don't purée; I like it a bit lumpy). Return to pan. Add to taste:
1 big lump butter (maybe 2 T?)
1-2 C. cream or whole milk
1-2 C. chicken broth
grated cheese
salt & pepper to taste
dash of nutmeg
- Reheat and serve!
Need I say "organic" all the time? And I use sea salt and homemade broth, but you don't have to, of course. Float a few croutons on top for extra goodness. Mmmm!
here is a Gordon Ramsey recipe that may not sound good but one has to try it. (i loved it)
2 heads broc. cut florets and some stem
place in 2.5 qts. boiling water with 1 T salt (i used 1/2) cover and cook for 3-5 min. (i did 2-3). Put broc. in blender with 1/2 cooking liquid. (add more for desired consistency) Blend, serve over brown rice and drizzle with a little evoo. (i left out the oil but did add a little cayenne) Simple but really tasty.
My son makes it at night and warms it in a.m. and throws it in a thermos for lunch--healthy stuff !!
Your low-fat lifestyle is so '80's mike4... Next time you make it add the oil and enjoy! It tastes good because our bodies need fat in our diets.
adding oil also increase the bioavailability of the fat soluble vitamins(A, D, E, and K)
