Ten Tricks to Using Google You Probably Don't Know

Google, Internet, computerYou may have mastered some of the basic tricks of Google, but most people use only about 3 percent of this search engine’s available power.

Dozens of Google search guides detail the common tips, but lifehacker.org has skipped the obvious and highlighted obscure but very useful Google Web search tricks. Some of these are really amazing, and remind me why Google has been my favorite search engine for nearly a decade!

10. Get Local Time: Type in What time is it followed by any city to get the current time.

9. Track Flight Status: Enter the airline and flight number to find out the departure time and estimated arrival for any flight.

8. Convert Currency, Metrics, Bytes and More: Google has a built-in converter calculator. You can enter quarter cup in teaspoons, seconds in a year, 5 US dollars in Euros and countless others.

7. Search for Pages That are “Better Than,” “Similar to,” or “Reminds me of”: Enter “better than keyword” or “similar to keyword” to find Web pages you never knew existed.

6. Use Google as a Free Proxy: Enter cache:website.com to view a Web page that’s been blocked from the computer you’re using.

5. Remove Affiliate Links From Product Searches: To avoid seeing search results from certain sites, enter –site:website.com.

4. Find Related Items: Enter ~ before any search term to find related items as well.

3. Find Music and Comic Books: Enter -inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:"index of" +"last modified" +"parent directory" +description +size +(wma|mp3) "Band or comic book name" to find music files and comic books.

2. See Images of People, Objects, Etc.: Type in a search term, and click on images to see photos of the results.

1. Search for Faces: If you’re looking for a photo of a person named Rose, and don’t want to see photos of the flower, add &imgtype=face to the end of your image search. It will show you only images of faces.

I'm confused, when did we change the subject from Google tricks to vegetarianism?

Hmmmmm......I'm just trying to figure out what all this vegetarian/meat-eating rap has to do with finding the best search engines?  Isn't there a forum for that discussion?  I mean, I'm for Whirled Peas and all that...but...

Might I also suggest www.scroogle.org ? It's an ad-free Google search proxy which prevents the searcher's data being stored by Google.

That way your personal search habits and other personal info is not stored on a Google database.

What a bunch of babbling slop.  Spend some time with the animals I mean years and really watch how they react to one another .  Don't tell me dogs don't plan then I have a canine genius on hand.  We had pigs, cows, chickens, cats, dogs even a goat and they are all amazing creatures. They all had their personalities and they definitely had their position in their particular herds. They even had going for them their favorite partner or one they despised.  They felt pain when birthing came they moaned and cried and some would look to you for help.  They knew death and fled from the bull hauler as soon as he showed up. It was a heart ache to see them shipped for slaughter or to slaughter our own to feed ourselves.  If you are vegetarian and feel well then its absolutely the diet for you, if you need meat and need to keep fit its just the ticket for you.  What's all the stupid hurtful comments to one another?? Everyone has to do by what they know and what they need and so quit judging.  State your experience with the subject and without sneering at the other fellow. Don't think the other guy is trying to cut you down unless it obvious or mark it up as being clumsy in stating his oppinion.

It has been my own personal experience that I need some form of protein to exist as a vegan. I use Whey Protein.

There is a differance between being a vegetarian and just not eating meat.

Being a vegetarian.. you also have to supplement what you would get from meat like.... protein.

I have a friend that did not eat meat and she did get sick because she ate nothing but junk and some veggies and fruits. Not getting what her body needed made her sick.

Dariusz,

get your Dad off the soy - it ain't good news from many points of view.  Search mercola and wider afield and you'll learn why. If that stress was taken off his system his humour and well-being would most likely improve considerably.

By the way, are you of Magyar descent?  That sz combination in your name... nagyon  Maygar.

Sean.
