And as long as we're talking about broken, who decided to call these "blogs"? A blog is a web log. These are interactive message boards on a BBS, or Bulletin Board Server. They're boards, not blogs.

There. I feel so much better now. That has been bothering me for two years! Go ahead, call me a picker of nits, but it's just BROKEN.

To askwhy - You are right on the money in what you say.  If they wouldn't have put a label on the dog's medicine and the dog would have gone to the local bar to have a beer and gotten deadly sick... then bingo... you have a law suite.  In fact something else that is broken... our judicial system!  Great video Dr. Mercola, thanks.

mr. godin...why stop there?  you've drawn some attention to the tree, if you will, of brokenness, but you've stopped at the branches...why?  most of the roots of the tree are people with lots of numbers wanting even more numbers to hoard.  why wasn't a usability study done?  to make sure more numbers are left over to put into the accounts of those with lots in there already.  why isn't the concession stand properly staffed?  again, so those with much can have more.  the pharmacist and the sign maker may have thought they'd be fired unless they as they are told, period.  they are people that don't have enough numbers to really have freedom.  or...they don't feel valued and respected enough to give more / do a better job.  rarely do you see things being done in an actually useful way...or in a way that would make society less frustrating, less stressful, more happy, more peaceful.  you know murphy's law? well, i have an evva's law: if it makes sense, chances are, it ain't happening.  and again, that's because those with the numbers and therefore the power care more about having more numbers and a cushy lifestyle for themselves than making society more livable for all.

My son and I were just discussing design flaws in all kinds of things.  Such flaws can often be avoided if time is taken to think through the various ramifications of the product--including actually using the product with the design set up the intended way (doing a test run, so to speak).   In addition, calling in an objective source to see the design with fresh eyes, oten works wonders.  

At my son's rented home, the garbage disposal switch is located just under the counter top, right in the front--so that while leaning over the sink for whatever reason, one can accidentally turn on the garbage disposal.  It's very disconcerting until you get used to standing in front of the sink in a certain way. (with your rear end protruding!).

Where I live (a townhouse complex), the builders wanted to keep the concrete steps in front of each unit a two-step design.  The two-step design works fine where the ground is level.  However, my unit sits on sloping ground.  This means that my two front steps are each unnecessarily TALL.  It would have been far smarter (and safer!) to put three steps going to my front door--but no, the design had to be kept consistent!   When trying to negotiate those very high steps with a load of groceries, especially in winter conditions, it becomes trying.  

Another design flaw is that this three-bedroom, two-bath unit, came with a kitchen sink that I call a "bar sink."  It's very shalllow, and I've seen the same sink used in bars to disinfect bar glasses.  However, in a home, the sink's functionality is pitiful.  Neither a baking pan or a soup pot,will fit under the kitchen faucet (so I have to wash them in the bathtub!).  

The world is filled with people rushing to get the job done--without necessarily seeking to get the job done "right."  i hope each of us watching this video can function better.  As the old saying goes, a job worth doing, is worth doing right.

whole web pages are filled with bad american signs, so no one is being prejudiced.

This video is completely blank.

This explains customer service today in retail stores from minimum wage clerks. Comments like, "if it's not on the shelf, then we don't have it". Or, "what's the number of the item you are looking for". How about, "If it isn't in stock here, call this 800 number and request it from the corporate office.  When it gets this bad, I usually respond with, "I'm sorry, I don't work here." Amazingly, when clerks hears this, they usually respond real quickly with some proper interest in their customer service jobs.

Ok, it's kind of funny, and I like the idea behind it.  But making fun of signs from foreign countries?  Only an American...
