How to Cut Up Your Credit Card the RIGHT Way

Videos are fine -- for those who are able to watch them. Dr. Mercola, your message is lost by a LOT of people when ONLY video (no text) is available for the following reasons:

1)  Many (and I mean MANY!) viewers are at work and cannot watch the videos, but certainly can read the TEXT.

2)  Many viewers are in rural areas and cannot download videos without spending a LOT of time and experiencing drop-outs.  They are restricted to TEXT viewing.

3)  Many of us don't want to watch a video in the night and disturb the sleeping (or reading) family members.  TEXT is better.

4)  Some viewers are hearing-challenged -- the video is USELESS!  However, they can read text just fine!

Over the years, I've written these same words to just about all the news outlets regarding video without accompanying text of news events on their websites.  They don't listen <sigh>  They don't CARE!!!

Dr. Mercola, II would assume you, of ALL people, want to get your message out.  Keep the videos, but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE include the text!!!!!!  You obviously believe in your message, but you are crippling the method of delivery.  We are dying to read the TEXT!  Hopefully, I'm not wasting my time sending you this message.

I have a cross cutting shredder with a credit card slot. It works great and it takes only a second to shred! I also shred anything with my name and address on it...every little bit helps.

I do understand your concerns, though. I have, in the past, had a computer without sound and a computer with dial-up. I just moved less than a month ago and am so happy to be back to high-speed Internet.

I did, a few years back, write to Dr. Mercola's team asking for transcripts. Some time after that, I found that there was much more information (though usually not actual transcripts) attached to any video presentation he did.

However, I don't think it's fair to ask the doctor's team to transcribe outside videos that they link to to be helpful. This credit card video was not made by Dr. Mercola and has nothing to do with health. I'm sure the team has plenty to do without transcribing every video they link to. I think the Mercola team does a pretty good job of providing text for Mercola videos.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO CAN'T WATCH THE VIDEO here is basically what the woman in the video said:

When cutting up your credit card to avoid identity theft, make multiple cuts (horizontal and vertical) with strong scissors through any identifying information including:

*Name

*Account Number

*expiration date

*security code

You can also use a shredder if it has a cross-cutting function and especially if it has a credit card slot

And if you want to go the extra mile, you can take a magnet and run it across the magnetic strip to deactivate the information.  And when the card has been cut into pieces, separate them into two piles and throw them away into separate trash cans so that the trash will be collected at different times and different weeks.  

My personal note:  I only recently got faster internet speed, so I know how extremely troubling it can be to have slow internet access and not be able to watch any videos.  And hopefully this is also helpful to anybody at a public computer.

maybe your volume is too high.  Are you thinking he should whisper softly in your ear?  The man's got to project his voice so as to be received properly by the microphone.

Bellows?  He sounds like a very reasonable and educated man to me.  His messages are usually very educational and I've learned a lot from this site re. some of my own health problems.  I always seek out correlating information too, and Dr. Mercola's information is accurate.

I have been playing guitar in a pub rock band for the past 9 years and I find that I can make really useful guitar picks from my old credit cards. I can usually get six picks from each card; the main variable is the quality of the plastic - AmEx are the best!

All the identity information is destroyed in the process, I enjoy this recycling effort, and I can flick the used pick out at the audience after a solo with a clear conscience (Yes! Permissible littering!)

By the way - I play the Mercola videos at work - I feel that my colleagues can benefit from a little extra knowledge too.

I do cut up my cards multiple times, different directions, place them into different garbage cans, and they are all separated, etc.  My shredder does not do cards, but maybe my next one will.  All good advice, and I agree there should be transcript under the video for those who cannot use the video.  I do fine with the videos, however.  Maybe a little consideration for all is what is needed.

Don't just cut up your credit card, stop being a credit slave altogether.  Dump your credit cards, your bank accounts.  Cancel anything that req'd a SSN to get.  In fact, dump your social security number as well.  www.SEDM.org

Exit the "credit" system and live free.  If you want to buy something, save for it or go without.

You know what Dave Ramsey says about credit cards, don't ya? "Cut them--get them out of your lives!" Well, maybe not those exact words, but you get my point.

Please add the text, others of us do not allow the plug ins required to look at your the videos.   All the mentioned reasons for including text are valid.  As you can read there are many.

I vote ... a good video. Not too loud and  complete. I would never think of cutting in  both directions, either. Good ideas suggested in it too. Thanks for posting. I hang on to credit cards too long. THANKS>

I don't usually watch videos.  I'm up in the middle of the night doing computer work and I don't want to wake up my family.  Please just stop videos.  I can read faster than I can get the same information from videos.

Please consider the millions of rural people, like me, who are still on dial-up because companies will not make enough cash to make it worth their while to come to our area.    Video loading is  painfully slow (half hour or more) so I usually avoid the frustration and click the little X.    Yes, please include the text.

I love Dr. Mercola, but these vids are such a waste of time.  I just wish they would post the transcripts rather than the videos!  Does anyone agree with me?
