Perfect Reason to Feel Grateful for What You Have

In August 2008, I was diagnosed with aggressive, advanced cancer (breast, lymph, liver and bones) and told that I was "beyond..."  "It is just my job to keep you as comfortable as I can for as long as I can."  I walked out and never went back.  I've had NO chemo, NO radiation, NO surgery, No oncologist.  It's been a long road.  I am not cancer-free yet but I intend to be.  Nick was the encouragement I needed.  I ordered his t-shirt that says, "Never Give UP!"  Someday, I too hope to be an inspiration to others.  Thank you Dr. Mercola for putting this up for folks like me who have a big challenge whatever it may be. -Kathleen,  Amherst, VA.

Great video!  I'm a Deaf person and I love being Deaf and wouldn't trade it in for being hearing.   It saddens me to see many hearing person completely lacking the ability to appreciate what they have. I'm also a member of the Association of Late Deafened Adults (www.alda.org).  For me, it's fascinating going to the annual convention every year seeing newcomers who lose their hearing and struggled with it for years finally meet other Deafened people and shocked to come to understand that their lives are just beginning. They have so much to look forward to...truly an awakening moment like the students found meeting Nick...

I have seen videos of this man before, and he is amazing.  He makes us all want to be better, no matter what our abilities.

Here I am in a motel room visiting a mentally ill parent. It is beyond hard. I have been angry all week, and asking why me, why me. The day is ending, so I just checked my e mail, and there was Dr. Mercola's tag line on being grateful. I figured, what the heck....THANK YOU Dr. Mercola from the bottom of my heart for this video. It came at the most perfect time, and I will tuck it away in my heart.

Yes, I am familiar with Nick, yet out of sight, out of mind. I will try to keep his courage, and encouragement with me the rest of my stay. God bless.

This man truly has a beautiful heart. I've seen some of his videos before. What a powerful influence he had on those teenagers!

I experienced actual healing of a mysterious, spreading pain in my side/breast area years ago through simply thanking God for everything I could, including (especially, I think!) "little" things like a flower in someone's garden I walked past on my way somewhere. First, I "fought" the pain, and it stopped spreading, but didn't go away. Then I read a small quotation that spoke to my heart. I was going through what was one of the saddest times of my life, but that quotation reminded me that I still had a lot to be thankful for, and that I needed to be thankful.

After a short time of practicing intentional gratitude, the pain went away completely and never came back. I cheered up, too, although I hadn't been consciously depressed, just aware of a painful situation. I also learned a beautiful lesson that has never left me, and has helped me often.

You can call me sentimental if you want to, but I thought it was beautiful.

I have been challenged by left hemiparesis and deafness in one ear since having suffered a cerebral hemorrhage back in 1986 but by the grace of God survived to see my 6 children grow up and (so far) 9 grandchildren arrive.  The tendency to get depressed over challenges has been there since the onset of disability.  A Christian friend sent me one of the earlier videos of Nick once when I was beginning to get bogged down with frustration over life circumstaces and their inherent challenges.  That helped me to remember to count my many blessings - we all DO have them!  Nick is a shining Christian testimony to the fact that the grace of God is sufficient and we can rise above many obstacles in life with the Lord's help.  Thank you for sharing his story yet again - it helps us all:)!

Thanks Dr. Mercola.  I love Nick.  I show clips of him to my students every year.  It's people like him that makes "problems" like a dead cell phone battery or a cracked iPod touch screen seem pretty meaningless.

Many years ago, I started a notebook with articles of highly challenged, yet happy and even successful, people such as this.  Whenever I would start to get blue, I just opened the notebook, or even thought about it, and I shamed myself into becoming aware of how fortunate I was.   Blue no more.  Perspective is all.

Nick represents the human spirit at its finest.  Instead of envying those around him for all the abilities and opportunities that they enjoy but he is denied, he uses his own misfortunes for the benefit of others. He has put himself at the service of people who have everything that he has not.  He possesses the spirit of a true hero.  What a man!

Thank you, Dr. Mercola for this marvelous video on Nick.  He truly is an inspiration to us all.  We  ALL  are worthy of living and have so much to give.  It is just getting past all the negative crap and just  START  living.  Even when we face diversity, we can still have one great life to live.  Thank you, again.

He is such an inspiration to others.  Pain and suffering comes into everyone's life sooner or later.  We need coping skills to get through them.  He shows us the way, and it is amazing.

This man was meant to inspire all of us to the maximum, to believe EVERYTHING in our lives is by divine Providence, and we are living for a specific purpose and are in His hands no matter what the difficulties. I love him for being all he was meant to be.

It's obvious that this gentleman found his source of motivation within himself; we say he "has a great hearth". He has shown us that we humans can find contentment regardless of any exterior circumstance, if we love life. In my opinion and experience, loving life is not some thing that we can develop by thinking about it, having good wishes, or even seeing such a beautiful stories just like this one. We love this man because he catalyze some thing in every one of us, we can see that beautiful hearth and by doing so, we intuit that we have that hearth as well. We need to find a practical way to go to that hearth, we need to go within ourselves, and we need to find that hearth which is the source of love for life.

By the way finding, these beautiful stories in the mist of our everyday battle through this existence, is of such an oasis of good news for a change. Thank you Dr. Mercola
