Hospitals Seeing Rise in New Superbug

Posted By Dr. Mercola | December 30 2009 | 706 views

Acinetobacter is a new and dangerous “superbug” which is increasingly appearing in U.S. hospitals. The bacteria is particularly threatening because few drugs can treat it.

Acinetobacter is not as common as some other superbugs, but there are fewer ways to cure it. It t can live in patients’ lungs, blood and urine, which can lead to pneumonia and other serious infections.

A recent study found that the percentage of antibiotic resistant Acinetobacter increased 300 percent between 1999 and 2006.
