Celiac disease is caused by intolerance to gluten. Both environmental factors and the composition of the bacteria in your gut may have critical roles in the onset of celiac disease.
Researchers recently created a mouse model for celiac disease to study the influence of probiotics on the development of the ailment. The mice were fed the probiotic strain Saccharomyces boulardii KK1, and the disease progression began to reverse.
According to the study, as reprinted on the website Green Med Info:
“The selected probiotic treatment reversing disease development will allow the study of the role of probiotics as a new therapeutic approach of [celiac disease].”
