Omega-3 rich foods also boost your immune system, which may aid in speeding up recovery. Some examples of food that have high amounts of healthy fat are avocados, nuts, seeds and fish like wild Alaskan salmon.2

Refined foods like white bread should also be avoided because they are also broken down by the gut into sugar.4

Caffeine. Caffeinated beverages may worsen the fatigue that you're experiencing. The intake of stimulants like coffee may disrupt your sleeping patterns, stopping your body from recuperating.5

Alcohol. The Epstein-Barr virus directly affects the liver. Remember that alcohol intake during the onset of mononucleosis may lead to liver damage because of the increased negative stimuli affecting the essential liver processes.6
