A newly discovered protein called cyanovirin-N inactivates the human immunodeficiency virus in vitro and has characteristics that make it a particularly attractive candidate for microbicide development. The virucidal protein was isolated and sequenced by a multicenter team at the National Cancer Institute in Frederick, Maryland. I have been recently been recommending that my patients consume Spirulina and Chlorella as protein alternatives, especially if they are blood type A. Earthrise is the largest grower in the world and they have very reasonable rates for bulk purchase (1-800-949-7473). One would need to consume about two tablespoons for a protein substitute for a meal. One teaspoon is about equal to one ounce of meat protein. It also has many other benefits, such as the main food source of GLA (gamma linolenic acid) The two tablespoons would have more that 300 mg of GLA which is a very adequate dose for most people.
