Many concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) produce the waste equivalent of a small city, storing manure in lagoons, then spraying the liquid waste nearby. The toxic slurry is turning waterways into veritable toilet bowls, while contaminated CAFO dust may spread E. coli onto healthy crops like romaine lettuce.
