Disease Starts LONG BEFORE You Have Symptoms

Even diabetics who keep their condition under control and do not have any obvious symptoms of heart disease may be at risk for hidden heart problems.

The findings suggest heart function should be evaluated soon after type 2 diabetes is diagnosed, even when there are no apparent signs of heart disease.

Left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) is an impairment in the relaxation phase of the heart's left ventricle, the main pumping chamber. This can lead to increased pressure and fluids in the lungs or in vessels that return blood to the heart and may be the first sign of diabetes-related heart damage.

The major finding of this study is that LVDD is much more prevalent than previously suggested in subjects with type 2 diabetes who are free of clinically detectable heart disease.

This study is a good example of a point I frequently share with patients:

Just because you don't have any symptoms does not mean you are healthy.

About 80% of disease process occurs before we have ANY symptoms. That is why it is so important to be proactive about health. Unfortunatley most of the people I see are only motivated to make changes when they are caught up with symptoms.

Some diseases don't have any symptoms until you they actually kill you. How is this possible? or this is surely very rare you might say. Well the number one cause of death in this country is heart disease and the most common symptom of heart disease is not chest pain, but it is sudden death. In other words, the person has absolutely no symptoms, then gets a heart attack and dies.

SO, if you aren't following the diet program why don't you start now. The major benefit of following the program is NOT that you will avoid nearly all degenerative illness (although that is a good one), but you will typically feel incredible. That is what keeps you going.

Now the diet is important for everyone, but if it does not provide the improvements you would like then it is important to seek professional guidance. I still see patients. However, if you want to find someone local you can use the links at the bottom of my home page www.mercola.com
