| Hello! Thanks for the
opportunity to tell my story. In 1997, after being quite ill for several
months (and probably for many years before this), I was diagnosed with a
thyroid disease.
I was extremely exhausted, slept all the time, had
unexplained weight gain, brain fog and memory lapses, and more.
I
was unable to function normally.
Around that time, my husband had been doing some medical
research on the web for a case he was defending. He told me of a thyroid
website at About.com. I immediately went to it. I spent the next year
reading and following every single link. There were so many links, so
many resources, so many answers to my questions.
This
was truly a gold mine.
During this time, I went through
many different doctors. I wasn't being treated properly, and
still felt quite sick. Mary Shoman, the guide
of the thyroid website at About.com, often interviews, what she and the
many thousands of people who use this site, consider as "Top Docs". I
read many of these interviews with interest.
Finally, an interview with Dr. Mercola, a holistic
physician in Schaumburg, prompted me to change doctors one last time.
This
is when my life began to change.
Dr. Mercola started treatment by completely changing
my diet.
From there, I began to take supplements. We also went
through a process of increasing the doses of my medication, until I was
being treated optimally. I have been a patient of Dr. Mercola's since
the summer of 2000. It has taken some months, but
for the first time in four years, I feel well.
I never would have known about Dr. Mercola, and have
learned so much about thyroid disease if it weren't for Mary Shoman and
her website. She presents so many more options, and so much more education
about this disease than any of the doctors I had visited. I have become
an informed patient, able to be an advocate for my own health. It's a
feeling of empowerment.
Sincerely,
Mary Leahy
