Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy
G. Thompson, worried
that flu sufferers might assume that their aches and pain
are symptoms of the more deadly disease anthrax,
is summoning pharmaceutical industry chiefs to his office
today for a "stern discussion" about making more
flu vaccine.
As his department battles an ever-growing
anthrax crisis, Thompson is fearful many Americans will jump
to the wrong conclusion about common seasonal bugs. "Flu
and anthrax poisoning have the
same symptoms," such as sore throat, fever
and body aches, he said.
