Dear Dr Mercola,
First, I offer my most profound gratitude. Secondly, let me tell you why: My 23-year-old son developed a triglyceride level well over 700. He was not obese, but perhaps 10 pounds overweight. He became a vegetarian 2 years ago and previously had normal blood parameters. His relatives; an uncle, and grandfather died prematurely with heart attacks and elevated triglycerides just under 200. His medical doctor immediately put him on Lopid and other meds in an effort to reduce his levels. This resulted in no lowering of triglycerides but allergic responses and liver toxicity developing. In desperation for a cure, I searched the web and found you. After 6 weeks of your diet and free-range beef- his triglycerides are 300 and other levels like HDL are with in normal range. His doctor swore only genetic research would be my son's salvation and diet and exercise would be of no use. He was arrogant and tried to dismiss me as a ignoramus despite my 25 years as a registered nurse. I very simply want to thank you for saving my son's life. I am sure his levels will be normal in another 6 to eight weeks.

With deepest gratitude,

I am glad Marsha's son was able to improve his health with the eating plan. It is interesting that he started his downward decline shortly after starting a vegetarian diet.
It seems quite likely that the high grain carbohydrates most vegetarian choose contributed to this problem.
The new eating plan will work even better as it strongly emphasizes the importance of omega-3 fats in lowering triglycerides.
I suspect that decreased omega-3 fats maybe every bit as important as increased grains in worsening one's triglyceride levels.
