The researcher was also appointed to a U.S. government panel that will decide whether America’s dietary guidelines should include limits on sugar.
St. Petersburg Times September 8, 2003
This is the absolute type of nonsense research that the sugar industry is funding. This makes about as much sense as saying smoking cigarettes does not cause cancer.
To add insult to injury, the unscrupulous researcher who authored this nonsense study will help to decide whether the government's dietary guidelines should include limits on how much sugar Americans should consume.
Does anyone care to guess what the recommendation of this "expert" will be?
The future health of our country undoubtedly depends upon healthier eating. Our children are our future, so healthy eating habits need to reach them as well as us. Most people who are obese--this includes children--are not happy about it and would like to return to a healthy weight. Adults know about the potential health implications but, as the above study shows, often receive incorrect information from medical "experts."
Most of the experts have yet to connect the dots between the processed sugar foods and sodas and this epidemic of obesity in children. It seems nothing less than criminal that schools can exchange income for their students health by allowing soda pop machines on school property. Some schools actually sell as many as 50 cans of soda to every student in one school year. This is morally reprehensible.
