Researchers discovered a compound in blueberries that could work
at reducing cholesterol as well as prescription drugs, without the
potential of side effects. Researchers are enthusiastic about this
latest finding on blueberries and said this could be added to the
already existing list of health benefits that blueberries provide
such as:
- Weapon against cancer, obesity and heart disease
- Contains anti-diabetic properties
- Protects against aging
- Produces memory-enhancing effects
The compound, pterostilbene is an antioxidant that shares similar
qualities to another cholesterol-reducing antioxidant, resveratrol,
which is found in both grapes and red wine.
Unlike the potential problems from commercial cholesterol reducing
drugs such as ciprofibrate, pterostilbene is less likely to produce
similar side effects.
