Blueberry Compound May Lower Cholesterol

Researchers discovered a compound in blueberries that could work at reducing cholesterol as well as prescription drugs, without the potential of side effects. Researchers are enthusiastic about this latest finding on blueberries and said this could be added to the already existing list of health benefits that blueberries provide such as:

  • Weapon against cancer, obesity and heart disease
  • Contains anti-diabetic properties
  • Protects against aging
  • Produces memory-enhancing effects

The compound, pterostilbene is an antioxidant that shares similar qualities to another cholesterol-reducing antioxidant, resveratrol, which is found in both grapes and red wine.

Unlike the potential problems from commercial cholesterol reducing drugs such as ciprofibrate, pterostilbene is less likely to produce similar side effects.

This study adds to a growing list of health benefits attributed to blueberries, including protection against aging, heart disease and cancer, as well as acting as a memory booster.

It's also good news that a potentially healthy alternative to dangerous cholesterol-lowering drugs is getting some media attention. Eliminating grains and sugars from your diet is another important step to normalizing cholesterol levels without relying on drugs.

Not only do blueberries taste good, but they are one of the most potent antioxidant foods on the planet. They are small and densely packed with a variety of potent phytochemcials that can do wonders to normalize and improve health.

But, just remember, don't fall into Goldilocks' trap, or the classic American strategy when it comes to nutrition: If a little is good, then more is even better.

If you eat too many blueberries, too much sugar will be released in your system which will cause insulin levels to rise and, eventually, a worsening rather than an improvement in your health.

For those who travel frequently or lead busy lifestyles, we now carry delicious and convenient Wild Blueberry IQ Softgel Capsules in our store. They are made from whole fresh blueberries and contain 40 mg of potent disease fighting anthocyanins per capsule -- more than any other available supplement!

My main concern is the side effects of ciprofibrate. I seem to be experiencing the same symptoms as those related to Statins.  I now need pain killers to help me sleep.  My wife has had the same experiences.
