Alternative treatments are bounding their way to the medical forefront: According to a 2002 government survey of 31,000 people, more than one-third of American adults have tried alternative therapies such as:
In fact, interest in alternative therapies are becoming so prevalent that the University of Pennsylvania is collaborating with Tai Sophia Institute -- an alternative medical school in Washington D.C. -- to create a curriculum focused on teaching medical students about the wide range of natural treatment options available.
Tai Sophia will offer a master's degree program in complementary and alternative medicine starting in August; both schools will share faculty members and students.
What's the overall goal? That Penn medical school graduates will be able to communicate effectively with patients about how to guide alternative treatments into their overall care, said the co-founder of Tai Sophia.
Spreading Like Wildfire
Penn isn't the only university jumping on the bandwagon; universities nationwide are increasingly focusing on complementary and alternative medicine. According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, more than 95 of America's 125 medical schools require some kind of complementary and alternative medicine coursework.
In addition, Penn and Tai Sophia have a few more plans up their sleeves:
They are also developing postgraduate and continuing education courses on complementary and alternative medicine.
Cardiologists at Penn's Presbyterian Medical Center are working with Tai Sophia to incorporate alternative therapies into traditional care for heart problems.

It's pleasing to see more proof of the seemingly inevitable shift the U.S. health care system is taking from a model based on treating symptoms with expensive drug solutions to one that focuses on the foundational cause of disease.
Many systems utilizing these newly applied natural healing tools, such as acupuncture, naturopathic and chiropractic medicine, focus on health rather than disease. They understand that the absence of disease does not equate to health.

Gary Craig's Comment:
Amen to this! Alternative therapies are finally taking their rightful place in the healing arena. The growth of Dr. Mercola's teachings, for example, has been phenomenal and, likewise, EFT's growth has been more than impressive. EFT is a major player in the alternative therapy field and in the last three years our e-mail newsletter list has increased 800 percent.
I recently conducted several EFT workshops aimed at Serious Diseases where I brought people up on stage who, for the most part, were not making progress via the medical model. I only applied EFT for their emotional issues and energetic imbalances (no drugs or surgeries involved) and often produced symptomatic relief for such ailments as Multiple Sclerosis, Cancer, Parkinson's Disease, Asthma, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Brain Damage, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, Chronic Fatigue, Deep Vein Thrombosis, Balance Problems, Rheumatoid Arthritis and a long list of other issues.
Many physicians were in attendance and frequently found our results astonishing. EFT is not alone in this "Alternative Therapy Movement," however, for we are on the ground floor of a Healing High Rise.
Note: Those without an EFT background can receive an orientation by getting the free EFT Get Started Package, including a free download of the 79-page EFT Manual (it includes all the basics). Those wishing to save time and dive right in can get our very affordable training videos.
Gary Craig is a pioneering developer of EFT, a profoundly effective emotional/mental healing approach. Dr. Mercola attributes much of the incredible and permanent patient successes at his clinic, The Optimal Wellness Center, to the fact that EFT is used with every patient to address all three levels of healing: mind, body and spirit. Of the thousands of natural treatments Dr. Mercola has studied and used in his 20 years of practicing medicine, he feels that EFT is the greatest healing technique that exists.
