I am passionately opposed to mercury fillings. Six years ago I actually spent months compiling the scientific evidence supporting this belief and that summary was published in The Journal of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine Mercury Toxicity and Systemic Elimination Agents, in March of 2001.
A "silver" filling, or dental amalgam, is not a true alloy. Amalgams are made up of to 50 percent mercury. More than 100 million of these mercury fillings are placed each year in the U.S.
A single dental amalgam filling releases as much as 15 micrograms of mercury per day. The average individual has eight amalgam fillings and could absorb up to 120 micrograms of mercury per day. In contrast, eating mercury-tainted seafood will expose you to about 2.3 micrograms per day -- and that is enough for scientists to call for a world-wide warning.
Mercury vapor from the amalgams passes readily through cell membranes, across the blood brain barrier, and into the central nervous system, where it causes psychological, neurological, and immunological problems. Mercury can persist in your body for years unless it is actively removed.
I first became alarmed about amalgam fillings 7 years ago. I had a lot of fillings that were very old - put in when I was about 12 -13 years old (I am 48 now). I asked my dentist about them and his response was "the ADA would not let us use them if they were dangerous". I decided then that I needed to find a holistic dentist, which I did. Over the last 5 years we have been steadily removing them and I now have 2 left, which, I think will be removed sooner, rather than later. by the way, if anyone in the Chicago area needs a great dentist, contact me at ls_night@hotmail.com.
Is it safe, or is there a safe way to remove these. Certainly drilling them out or carelessly digging them out somehow would expose the person all at once to more mercury than they would otherwise get. A holistic doc here says that Zeolyte will remove heavy metals from the body and do other good things. Gabriel Cousens endorses it. Anyone had any experience with that?
In reply to Yod: Yes Zeolite it working for my family member. I am glad to hear a holistic dr. would recommend it. The dr. may be a distributer so if you are aware of that slant, why not give it a try? Best to you in your search.
My husband and I've read Dr. M's site for a very long time and enjoy the comments as well, we learn about new things to look into. This is my 1st post. I've read the thread, back to the doc who is trying to discredit all of this. I am 57. I've read everything I can get my hands on and done my homework, including visiting 3 biolotical dentists, a bio-research scientist, a naturopath, and other holistic practitioners. My recommendation is to become informed. I am listing a few books FYI- see amazon.com. Do internet searches on this. There are a couple websites I will list too. I will not list anything that in any way will lead preditators who try to take down the biological dentists - we must protect them as they are the only ones who will protect and help us. In one year, I know of several dentists the ADA has gone after. Those 'in the know' won't drop names easily, but there are resources out there to help you.

Dr. Westin A. Price discovered the hazards of root canals in the 1930's. The ADA did a coverup. Please read, research, and do your homework. A mercury free dentist is not the same as a biological dentist, who are limited in number. Be prepared to travel and pay big $$$ - insurance does not cover the work they do. ADA and Insurance work together. You and Biological dentists work together. You protect biological dentists and they protect you. Don't panic. Educate yourself. I'm traveling 1000 mi and spending our retiremen - 3 Bio D's told me I wouldn't live to spend it with the toxicity in my mouth. Big Decisions. I need a whole mouth re-work. Look for the right Bio D for your needs. Learn about heavy metal detox following removal. Hope this helps.
I have a lot of experience with removal of mercury. I have removed the mercury from my teeth and so have a number of family members and friends who I convinced to do so. In EVERY case, serious psychological and physiological problems disappeared almost literally overnight.
These included:
o Numbness in extremities
o Floaters in the eyes
o Anxiety/panic attacks
o Suicidal depression
o Joint aches
o Muscle spasms
o Shooting pains
o Agoraphobia
o Extreme shyness
o Bowel problems
o Urinary problems
o Weakness
o Extreme fatigue.
There are many more. My mother in law had been diagnosed with Lupus. The symptoms disappeared when the mercury came out and she stopped taking about 20 different pills, the side effects of which disappeared, too, of course. A woman who could not read a newspaper article and could hardly walk is now living a full life.
My wife was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. She is completely cured. I asked the doctor whether it might be mercury poisoning and his response was to scoff and suggest a spinal tap.
Lupus, chronic fatigue, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia...these aren't diseases at all. They are just fancy names for a constellation of similar symptoms, all of which are also the symptoms of chronic mercury poisoning.
The damage to my family caused by mercury fillings can be multiplied by millions world wide. It must be the biggest crime committed in the history of humanity. And the dentists who have committed and continue to commit it must be well aware of what they are doing. The scientific evidence is overwhelming.
Sites like this and many others are slowly turning the tide.
Check out listings of dentists committed to MINIMALL INVASIVE DENTISTRY.
These dentists are listed if you go to the website WCMIN (World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry). This is a group that believes in the power of natural tooth healing and they will be as conservative as possible with treatment.
Please do not imagine that white fillings are all good.
Look into the health concerns of bisphemol A. I would suggest inert materials - although porcelain is tough on opposing teeth because it is so hard. You need most of all to strengthen and protect your teeth as much as you worry about changing fillings. For more information visit www.CleanWhiteTeeth.com

LOL!!!!!!!!!
A toxic site if I have ever seen one!
I have a lot of amalgam fillings. A few years ago, I started taking chlorella, and at the same time, a hair sample was sent to a lab that is specifically testing for mercury to build a case against it. The testing found an infinitessimally small amount of mercury. I am wondering if some people's bodies are able to excrete mercury better than others.
Interesting, Verleen. I'd say you're right!
My hair test showed very high mercury which means I was excreting mercury but I was still suffering from poisoning and mercury did screw me up. Sometimes low hair mercury could mean you are not excreting. I ate alot of garlic which chelates mercury but I could never keep up with all the fillings and scraps from placement.
