The China Consumers Association recently issued a formal warning, urging people to pay closer attention to the medicine they take.
It is estimated that almost 200,000 people die every year in China from taking old, fake, or inappropriate medicine at home.
In addition, 60-80% of China's 10 million deaf-mute cases are related to the use of inappropriate medicine.
Many Chinese assume that expensive oral remedies, which rarely have details of their contents or side effects listed, are safe and effective cures for an array of common ailments.
