Women With ‘Type A’ Personalities Have Higher Heart Disease Risk

Post-menopausal women with "Type A" personalities, often described as angry or impatient, or anxious/depressed personalities may have an increased risk of heart disease.

Taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) removed the added risk for women with angry personalities, but did not lessen the risk for those with anxious/depressed personalities.

Researchers suggest that women with these personalities are more likely to engage in unhealthy behaviors such as smoking, drinking, eating high-fat diets and not exercising, which can lead to an increased risk of heart disease.

People with ‘Type A’ personalities, or people who are anxious/depressed, are likely to feel increased levels of stress. Stress is not only associated with an increased risk of heart disease, but also cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver and suicide.

While it’s impossible to avoid stress altogether, you can reduce its effect on your health. I’ve found that EFT, a type of psychological acupressure, is remarkably effective in relieving all types of stress. You can check out my free, 25-page EFT manual for some guidelines on how to perform EFT. Beyond that you can try my EFT Series on DVD or VHS, which provides in-depth instruction on EFT.

You can also try other stress management techniques such as meditation or yoga. Be careful not to let finding a stress relieving technique add to the stress in your life. Relax and enjoy learning something new, and ultimately you will find the technique that works best for you.
