Is the Internet Your Source of Knowledge?

A Slashdot reader posts a question that applies to many of us: is the Internet your main source of knowledge? As the Internet becomes more and more mainstream, how many of us are abandoning books like dictionaries and encyclopedias in favor of Internet research? And how many of us are turning away from newspapers and TV and toward the Net for the latest news?

Dr. MercolaDr. Mercola's Comments:

Slashdot hosts an interesting discussion on how dependent we are on the Internet as an information source. For the non-tech readers let me explain that Slashdot is an incredible site for geeks. It is amazing that they are a top 1,000 Internet site and they have served as a model for me in helping design future features for my own site.

Since I started this site in 1997, I have been committed to providing honest, straightforward health information to the public. It is my vision to provide you with the knowledge you need to take control of your own health and change the traditional drug- and surgery-oriented health care system to one that focuses on treating and preventing the underlying causes of illness.

I have seen a dependence on the Internet as mentioned on Slashdot in myself to some degree, as I believe the Internet has the potential to offer loads of valuable information. Of course, it is often necessary to weed through the junk in order to find the treasure.

That is why I offer everyone my health e-newsletter absolutely free, and why I know post a free daily "blog," or health news page, called "H.O.T. News." Much of the health news and insights you'll find here can't be found anywhere else, largely because the TV programs and newspapers are restricted from telling the truth due to who is paying their bills with advertising. As there are no organizations of any sort restricting what is revealed here, you get honest information that is also crucial to helping you take control of your health and live better and longer.

Like Slashdot for the techie crowd, though, my e-newsletter and blog depend on readers like you to spread the word to others concerned about their health. That is how we've grown and how we'll continue to grow. So whenever you see an article in my e-newsletter that you believe may interest others -- one other or many others -- please forward it to them. You can use the "Email to a Friend" feature in the upper-right corner of the articles, or copy and send it along, but I'd greatly appreciate it if you also encouraged them to sign up for the free e-newsletter (which they can also do on Mercola.com's homepage).

My team and I will keep providing you health insights and advice that matters for free, so passing along a good word for the site and newsletter is all I ask of you.
