Australian golfer Geoff Ogilvy won the latest U.S. Open, beating out Phil Mickelson, who, if he had won, would have become one of only two players in the last 50 years to win three major championships in a row (the other player is Tiger Woods).
Mickelson, who many considered the favorite to win, needed a par to win or a bogey to have a playoff against Ogilvy. Instead, in an unexpected turnaround, Mickelson scored a double bogey, his only one in the tournament.
"I'm still in shock. I still can't believe I did that," Mickelson said ... "I'm such an idiot."
Other runners up at the U.S. Open were Jim Furyk and Colin Montgomerie. Ogilvy is the first Australian to win a major title since 1995.
