CDC Covering Up Serious Hazards of Water Fluoridation

On August 9, Daniel Stockin, a public health professional of The Lillie Center, Inc., presented the CDC’s joint ethics panel with a detailed, formal complaint alleging unethical activities by the CDC.

According to the complaint, Oral Health Division manager William Maas and CDC Director Julie Gerberding have committed “serious and egregious” unethical actions, by not disseminating new findings about the real hazards of fluoridated water.

Stockin stated, “People with kidney disease or on dialysis should see this complaint and the report by the National Research Council on fluoride. And if you happen to be a member of the population with diabetes or HIV, you will be amazed how the NRC report contains important information you should know about – but that CDC has elected not to openly share with the public because it runs at odds with putting fluoride in drinking water.”

In a separate development, news surfaced that on the same day 600 doctors, dentists, and other professionals have signed a petition calling for a halt to water fluoridation, asking for congressional hearings on the issue.

Dr. MercolaDr. Mercola's Comments:

In 2005, eleven unions within the EPA publicly called for a ban of water fluoridation, over concerns that it may cause bone cancer. And in 2006, the American Dental Association warned mothers about using fluoridated water to mix their powdered baby formula.

Now, finally, the U.S. Department of Agriculture is developing software to try to assess just how much fluoride you’re ingesting, citing new findings that cumulative fluoride intake might lead to painful skeletal fluorosis.

Yet despite long-standing, ever-mounting evidence of fluoride's hazard to human health, the CDC still clings to its outdated recommendation to add fluoride to drinking water in order to protect your oral health. Even though it was a lie, right from the start.

The Embarrassing Truth About Fluoride

Award-winning journalist Christopher Bryson, a former producer at the BBC, wrote about his shocking discoveries in his book “The Fluoride Deception,” and I also ran an exclusive interview with him, just over three years ago. His book details far more than the dangers of fluoride -- it reveals a multi-tiered effort, or as Bryson says, an abuse of power by military and industry scientists, and public health officials, to shamelessly promote fluoride to the dentistry field and the American public with little regard to the implications it would have on human health.

90 percent of the fluoride added to your drinking water is hydrofluoric acid -- a compound of fluorine that is a chemical byproduct of aluminum, steel, cement, phosphate, and nuclear weapons manufacturing.

Fluoride is also the active toxin in rat poisons and cockroach powder.

It is nothing but a carcinogenic industrial waste product, passed off on the public as a “nutrient” with necessary health benefits, to benefit the nuclear arms, aluminum, and phosphate manufacturers financially, to the tune of about $ 10 billion per year. Aided, of course, by your federal health agencies, controlled by political interest.

What Can Fluoride Do to Your Health?

Fluoride, contrary to popular belief, does not stop tooth decay at all, but rather causes teeth to rot and crumble – a condition called dental fluorosis.

According to the CDC itself, about 32 percent of American children have some level of dental fluorosis, characterized by mottling and pitting of the teeth. The real percentage is probably a lot higher than that. In 1993, the National Research Council reported 84 percent of the population had dental fluorosis in areas where fluoride in the water exceeded 3.7 parts per million (ppm).

What does that mean in plain English?

It means that if your water company adds a mere 3.7 drops of fluoride in every 13 gallons of water, you have an 84 percent chance of developing dental fluorosis.

The Environmental Working Group has petitioned the National Institutes of Health to list fluoride in tap water as a carcinogen. A 1991 study by the U.S. Public Health Service found a strong link between fluoride exposure and bone cancer in boys. They found there was a 79 percent increase in osteosarcoma in fluoridated communities and a 4 percent decrease in non-fluoridated communities.

Fluoride is closely linked to osteosarcoma for these reasons:

  • Fifty percent of ingested fluoride is deposited in your bones.
  • Fluoride is a mitogen that stimulates bone growth.
  • Fluoride is known to cause human cells to mutate.

So when fluoride is deposited into the bones, it stimulates bone growth, but not the good kind. Instead, it's growth that damages cells at the ends of bones and causes osteosarcoma.

How Can You Protect Yourself From Fluoride?

Whereas some other chemicals added to your drinking water will evaporate, fluoride is not one of them. Even cooking, food processing, regular filtration, or digestion doesn't remove fluoride. It just keeps going right up the food chain, accumulating in fat cells.

Therefore, the best place to start is by filtering your tap water with a reverse osmosis filter. And that includes for purposes such as:

    • Washing vegetables
    • Making ice cubes
    • Cooking, since heat does not destroy fluoride

Please don't fool yourself by thinking you can tell whether your water is safe or not by the way it looks, tastes, or smells. If you are receiving your water from a municipal water supply in the US the odds are that your water is fluoridated, and a simple carbon filter will not remove it.

Also remember that installing a filter to purify the water in your kitchen may not be enough. You might want to also consider adding filters in your shower and your tub, since you could still be exposed to contaminated water (which can be absorbed through your skin) when you shower or bathe.

I am not surprised at this the CDC is controlled by the same people who control the FDA and Congress.

Also, these same people control the government and the war in Iraq!

Russ, how do you know that they constantly lie to us about Fluoride and purposely poison us with it... (it is a smoking gun in my opinion)... but yet the government is so honest about other stuff, even more massive and important? They lie all the time....

yes, years ago I wanted to buy bottled water; they only company in atlanta that sold bottled water in GLASS was in the north end [i live in the south end].  they told me that the CDC would only use their glass bottled water and no others.

hmmm....wonder why?  some issues with PLASTIC?  I trust the CDC about as much as I trust the pit bull down the street.  i hate that i have to feel that way.

My studies of health, nutrition and diet began about 7 1/2 years ago when I started managing a health food store. During that time I had two young children at home who were ordered by their dentist to start taking flouride tablets. Naturally, being new to the field, I started reasearching flouride supplementation and was shocked to find so many problems associated with it. My wife refused to believe me when I informed her of the poisonous aspects of flouride and continued with the flouride tablets for another year. Our children, now 13 and 15, have a mottled appearance to their two front teeth. The flouride was cut off after much argument (just try to change your wife's decision). I refused to allow it to go on after the year. I have become a cynic and a questioner of all things written and spoken in the last seven years. You have to follow the money and find the real source of where this health-benefit-touting information is coming from.  When you find the true source, you find the sham. Flouride IS poison! When someone tells me their city water is not contaminated my next question is: how many 24 packs of bottled water do you buy from your market each year? Invariably the answer is 15-30.  And then, you see this blank stare and you see the brain gears turning.  Bottled water IS mostly filtered water (which does not remove flouride) from a municipal source that is bottled as far away as several hundred miles.

My point is this:  If you want to remove flouride from your diet, be very careful of what you put in your mouth and that includes 99% of all the juices you buy. (Made from concentrate! They use municipal water for that.)

I have to ask myself, would God add toxic waste(fluoride) to our water supply?  Of course not.  There is naturally occurring fluoride, but that is hardly the same thing!  I had always thought that the water in our town was not fluoridated and recently found out that it has been fluoridated since 2005.  We were never given the right to vote on the issue or otherwise protest this insanity!  It is amazing to me that so many poisons are added to our water and we are not allowed to vote on these health harming additives.  Where is the freedom our country is supposed to have?

I would respectfully submit that naturally occuring fluoride is very much the same thing, and just as harmful.  Just like "naturally occurring" lead, arsenic, or asbestos.

My dentist is always getting after me to use a "good flouride toothpaste" - when I tell them I refuse, they go after me telling me that my teeth will go bad, etc.  Well, I used flouride toothpast most of my life, and all the teeth in the back of my mouth are CROWNED!!!, so evidently it didn't do me a bit of good.  Not only that, I had a "root canaled" tooth that had a infection last year and they wanted to guess what? "root canal" it again.  I refused.  I took the antibiotics and so far have not had a recurrance.  I inherited weak teeth and never had good dental care as a child, but I refuse to pour good money after bad. I don't trust much in the medical community as a whole.  You MUST stand up for yourself or they will make you feel that you are just a fool. I get this all the time from doctors.

kfarias do NOT just refuse.  Also start spewing out true facts about why your choice is NO.  Make sure you speak in a sort of positive voice so that no one can get mad at you.  Unless they are...shall we say bad.  I also throw a lot of money at dentists.  Thank God for great thinking.

kfarias that goes for all health care. Take responsibility for your life.  And who says the doctor or dentist is the last word. Try this: the next time you see your doctor or dentist ask some very pointed questions about their decisions or diagnosis and see if an atmosphere of indignation begins to develop. If it does, change doctors. All doctors should work with the patient and answer the questions respectfully. I recently refused to go back to my doctor because he made the statement "I am the doctor here, I will decide what's wrong with you." What if he brings his car into a mechanic and says "I need new front brakes."...and the mechanic responds "I am the mechanic here, I will decide what it needs!" Do you think he would find another mechanic? You bet he would! So, why don't we do the same thing? Take control.

My teeth are horribly yellowed (originally with white streaks that have faded) due to fluoride.  Two of my molars eventually crumbled.  The rest seem ok, so far, even if they look so awful.  I don't want fluoride anywhere near me.

Well--I remember years ago--(yes, i'm a geezer), in the 50's--I had brushed my teeth with fluoride toothpaste before an event--I was nervous--and I guess I used too much. I started feeling sick and had a terrible burning in my mouth. After a while i felt something odd in my mouth--it was the lining to the roof of my mouth--it had been burned off--and shed itslef to dispose of the toxins, i guess.

Read the warning label on ANY toothpaste--esp for children---...fluoride or not.

I am not kidding or joking when I say this, but the Reverend Al Sharpton needs to read this article.  If anyone can raise a stink, expose a scandal within Washington DC about this issue and get it out in the mainstream media, its Sharptons organization or a like group.  There should be just as much media coverage on this topic as Michael Vick, Barry Bonds or LiLo.

I can see it now - Reverend Sharpton working overtime to make sure that the majority gets just as much harm from fluoride as the minorities do.

"As in any struggle for the ascendancy of truth, it is only a matter of time before mistaken views are exposed and discarded; time always sides with the truth.

Meanwhile, officials of the PHS, EPA, NAS-NRC, AAAS, WHO, RCP, AMA and the ADA should ask themselves how they will appear in the ultimate judgment of history for suppressing the very findings they are sworn to reveal. Although they could have blown the whistle years ago, when adverse effects where first reported, they failed to do so. And their culpability is constantly increasing as more and more evidence of harm from fluoridation comes to light; all their efforts to contain the bad news will ultimately collapse like the bursting of a dam as floodwaters of public indignation are unleashed. Their loss of prestige will be inescapable, and science's golden image will be more severely tarnished than it has ever been in the past."

In California, & i think in the rest of the country, you can request a copy of the report on your water from your local water district.  I was relieved to find our town does not add fluoride.  Not that we drink city water, anyway, but it made me less worried about an occasional use of the water for cooking, etc.  In general we use purified water (RO, & additional processes).
