  • Syphilis cases increased 76 percent from 2013 to 2017, with men who have sex with men making up nearly 70 percent of the cases
  • Chlamydia was the most common STD reported to the CDC, with more than 1.7 million cases diagnosed in 2017
  • Drug-resistant STDs are becoming more common; azithromycin-resistant gonorrhea increased from 1 percent in 2013 to more than 4 percent in 2017
