Three studies have been conducted using attention deficit hyperactivity disorder drugs on rats, which resulted in researchers believing the drugs--prescribed by doctors--can lead to depression along with permanent and irreversible brain damage later in life.
ADHD is associated with children not being able to concentrate, poor organization skills and impulsive behavior. Between 3 percent and 5 percent have been diagnosed with ADHD in the United States in 2003.
Yahoo News December, 8 2003
The above article states that between 3 percent and 5 percent of children have been diagnosed with ADHD in 2003. About one-half to two-thirds of those children will continue to have some difficulties with ADHD during their adulthood. Over 1 million American children take drugs for ADHD. Clearly it's not the answer, especially when there are better options.
Following these steps could greatly improve their ADHD:
Omega-3 oils, specifically fish oil, are probably the single most important nutrient for a child with ADHD to take. Please read, "Does Your Child Have ADHD? Consider Fish Oil Over Ritalin" to find more information on omega-3 oils and why they benefit children with ADHD. I also highly recommend Dr. Stoll's book The Omega-3 Connection. He is a Harvard psychiatrist who has done a great job compiling evidence supporting the use of fish oils.
Try to avoid fruit juices, soda and milk. Have your child drink water as a primary beverage.
You may also want to consider EFT to improve your child's emotional well-being. Emotional Freedom Technique is psychological acupressure, an inexpensive, simpler and proven way to eliminate the negative emotions barring you from a full and healthy life.
For more insight into the basics of the Emotional Freedom Technique, please check out my EFT Series on DVD or VHS. Once you learn the details and techniques and start applying them, I am certain your childs emotional state--and their life--will change for the better.
