Vitamin B6 May Reduce Nausea And Vomiting In Pregnancy

A multivitamin containing at least 10 milligrams of vitamin B6 may help reduce pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting.

68th annual meeting of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Ottawa, Canada September 1999

COMMENT: This is a relatively common problem in pregnancy. There used to be a drug on the market called Bendectin which contained vitamin B6 and an antihistamine and was a very effective solution for this. It had to be taken off of the market due to recurrent law suites that allegedly connected it to birth defects. I do not believe that there was any merit to the suits, but the company could not afford to defend the suits and make a profit so it took it off the market. One can achieve very similar results today by taking vitamin B6 (I would recommend 25 mg not 10) and an over the counter antihistamine such as Unisom.
