All of the lectures from Mom and years of public service campaigns
haven't made the impression they were intended to as a study revealed
that Americans aren't eating nearly enough vegetables, as they should.
What's even more troubling is, when asked, the majority of people
didn't know how much produce they should be eating. This was evident
in a poll taken of 2,742 people that showed 85 percent of consumers
were not following the recommended vegetable intake of five servings
of produce per day.
The current government produce recommendation is two to four servings
of fruit and three to five servings of vegetables a day. These recommendations
are expected to change sometime early next year to include more
fruits and vegetables.
A nutrition expert stated that the apparent lack of nutrition knowledge
among Americans should be looked upon as a wake-up call particularly
with the skyrocketing obesity rates.
Another survey showed that a shocking 3 percent admitted to eating
no produce at all.
